Whats the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the name Jennifer Knapp? A great young Christian artist with an amazing voice right? But have you ever thought how she came to Christ or what her life was like before this blessing of fame? Well she wasnt the protical of Christianity; really who is but she met Christ after a long hard road of sin. Born in Chanute, Kansas April 12th, 1974 this young Christian artist struggled in her early life. As a teen she had been drinking and smoking several packs of cigarettes a day at her worst, she also fell into sexual sin. In college is when she hit rock bottom; in her freshmen year she met a young lady who lived across the hall from her who loved her day after day with the love of Christ. She would help Jennifer time after time when she would come home drunk. It was a demonstration of love and mercy without judgment, plus countless prayers of this friend and ones like her that got Jennifer to soften up and turn toward Christ. Even then Jennifer would wrestle with God but after three months she final gave her self to Christ completely. Knowing that she had to clean up her act she surrender her heart to Christ and God changed her drastically. She knew that the drinking was hurting her physically and she cut down a lot but every once in a while she would stumble, but the smoking was even hard for her to quit doing because it was so natural for her to do and she did it all day long, but she knew that in order to have a full relationship with God she had to surrender all and say Im really struggling with sin father, and a lot of her songs echo just that. She started writing songs in college but wasnt too serious about it until the summer after her freshmen year in college. The girl that led her to Christ said Why dont you write as song about what Gods doing in your life? Thinking thats an interesting idea she did it. By the next year things where really starting to blow up for Jennifer she was playing at various churches and meetings for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She never did any studio recordings and made five-song demo cassettes and sold them at concerts. That was her business card, cause between being a full-time student and having a full-time job she did 80 concerts in one year. She was doing a concert in Michagan. Toby-of Dc Talk was rehearsing for there Jesus Freak tour and he happened to be friends with a guy that knew her he told her about her and Toby was interested enough to call her. They talked for just about a year and a half before making the deal final. Through someone else God touched and changed Jennifers life and now he is using her to touch and change millions of youths that listen to her music.
